Guide to lens options and coatings at Spectacular

Below are the options you have when choosing your glasses and frames at Spectacular Opticians. For more information about your choices or to book an appointment at one of our local practices, visit our practice pages.

Lens Options

Varifocals: offer a solution for near, middle and distance viewing. They are comfortable and convenient for all day wear. Unlike bifocals the areas of viewing gently progress up and down the lenses so that there are no dividing lines.

Bifocals: offer a solution for near and distance viewing only. The reading part is visible at the bottom of the lens. This lens provides no middle distance so computer use is more difficult.

Reactolite: are available in all lens types varifocals, bifocals and single vision. The benefits of Reactolite are that they protect your eyes from dangerous UV rays. They change quickly outdoors to reduce glare and increase comfort. By doing this they improve visual quality and reduce eye fatigue.

Hi-Index: (thin lenses) – available in all lens types. These lenses are made from a higher refractive material than normal plastic or glass. So less lens is needed than normal for the prescription. This in turn makes the lenses thinner and lighter making everyday wear more comfortable.

Coatings

UV filter – helps protect your eyes from dangerous UV rays.
Hardcoat – helps prevent your lenses scratching from everyday use.
MAR (Multi-Anti-Reflection) – helps stop reflections occurring in the lenses thus giving clearer vision. It also helps with the clarity of vision at night when driving by reducing the reflections of headlights and street lamps. The coating also reduces eye fatigue whilst using computers.
Tints – they available from a light category 1 tint to a dark sunglass category 4 tint. Range of colours include Grey, Brown and Green.
