Spectacular Opticians - a brief history

Spectacular as a business concept, originally emerged from another highly successful and long established optician’s business in King’s Lynn, Norfolk and was the brainchild of Stuart Gibbs, an honours graduate of the Optometry department at the City University, London.

The philosophy behind Spectacular was the concept of providing the best level of optometric care in combination with unrivalled levels of customer service and a range of high quality eye wear products at unbeatable prices. Established in 1989 – the first practice was set up in March, Cambridgeshire - this reputable business has grown substantially over nearly 20 years. A second practice followed shortly opening in December 1989, in larger premises at Downham Market, Norfolk.

Flowing from the success in March and Downham Market, Spectacular Opticians opened three further practices. These are located in the beautiful rural countryside of East Anglia – “The Ship of the Fens” (Ely – the Cathedral City, Newmarket – home to British horse racing, and the market town of Chatteris).
