Top 5 frame choice tips

Choosing glasses and frames can be a daunting task given the options available, so we've listed the top 5 tips you should use when choosing (based on our 20 years of experience!).

Stick to this list below and you can't go wrong!

  • tip 1Sizing - (Your eyes should be at the centre of each lens. The frame should be wide enough so there is a slight space between the frame and the side of your head.)
  • tip 2Colour -(stick to frames that suit your hair colour and skin tone. Remember flamboyant colours don’t always match everyday clothes.)
  • tip 3Shape - (As demonstrated on our choosing the right frame guide)

  • tip 4Frame Types/Material - (Plastic, metal, supra(half frames) and Rimless) Allergy to nickel choose titanium and stainless steel.
  • tip 5Suitability of lenses/prescription - (Depth of lens in frame is suitable for having e.g. varifocals/bifocals. Choose smaller frames for high prescription lenses as this reduces the thickness and weight. Also, with high prescriptions, shy away from rimless and supra frames as these require lenses of a minimum width and thus make the spectacles heavy and unsightly.

The sort of glasses you buy will be dictated by your lifestyle. For vision-correcting spectacles, the style you need is partly dependent on your vision problems. For example, If you're long-sighted and work in an office, you will need glasses that enable you to see your computer screen all day, so make sure the frames you choose are lightweight enough to wear for eight hours or more, and smart enough to blend in unobtrusively with your office outfits!
