Eye Examinations

Our Eye Examinations will always include all the standard tests, but we will also be checking the health of both the internal and external eye, ensuring the muscles and pupils are working properly, checking the sight with and without glasses, for both distance and near vision, and assessing the most up to date prescription for your eyes.

We also routinely check eye pressure and screen for numerous general health conditions like hypertension and abnormal brain function to mention just two. Any other eye problem or disease of the eye will be detected during these assessments.

Medical Eye Examinations with Our In-House Ophthalmologist

Martin Gibbs is the fully-qualified in-house ophthalmologist who practices at Spectacular. He performs the standard eye examination and is also in a position to offer a medical opinion on any eye conditions in the same way as you would expect to find from any surgeon at the local hospital. The main advantage here being that there is far more opportunity to get your condition explained to you in detail, whereas the hospital clinics tend to be very brief appointments due to severe restrictions on the surgeon’s time.

Comprehensive Testing for Over 60 & Under 16’s With Specialist Techniques & Equipment for These Age Groups

A standard eye examination will be adhered to as far as possible, bearing in mind that no two eye examinations are ever the same. However, testing is very much symptom lead, which means that specific tests will be used for each specific patient. This way we can target any symptoms they may require further study.

Examples of specific tests include the use of a slit-lamp to examine cataracts, and 3D tests for children. There are additionally several ‘objective’ tests which enable the optometrist to gain enormous amounts of information without talking to the patient. This can be very useful for pre-school children of any age and people who are unable to communicate well like in cases of Alzheimer’s.
